Store and ERP: Why aren’t they talking to each other?

Magento is a powerful e-commerce platform that has been operating under the Adobe umbrella as Adobe Commerce since 2018. It targets demanding B2B and B2C scenarios with extensive product catalogs and multi-store setups. Dynamics 365 Business Central is Microsoft’s modern ERP system for small and medium-sized businesses, covering Finance, Supply Chain, Sales, and Service.

The Magento Dynamics 365 Business Central Integration enables you to synchronize store and ERP in real time. Orders from Magento are automatically transferred as Sales Orders to the ERP, inventory levels flow back to the store, customer data remains consistent. You eliminate media breaks, reduce errors, and create the foundation for scalable growth.

What does the Magento Business Central connection deliver concretely?

The interface between your Magento store and Business Central automates core business processes and ensures continuous data flows.

Transfer orders automatically to the ERP. Every order from Magento is created in real time as a Sales Order in Business Central, including customer data, line items, payment and shipping information. Your inside sales and logistics teams work with current data, no manual transfer, no typing errors. Order fulfillment starts immediately.

Synchronize inventory in real time. Inventory from Business Central is automatically updated in Magento. Your customers see only available items in the store, overselling is a thing of the past. With Multi-Source Inventory, you can orchestrate stock from multiple warehouses and display accurate delivery times.

Maintain product data centrally. Items, prices, SKUs, and descriptions are synchronized from Business Central to Magento. You maintain product information centrally in the ERP, data flows automatically to the store. Consistent catalogs across all channels, less maintenance effort, faster time-to-market for new products.

Sync customer master data bidirectionally. New customers from the Magento store are automatically created in Business Central, existing customers are matched. Address data, customer groups, and custom attributes remain synchronized. Your finance team works with the same customer data as your e-commerce team.

Use prices and conditions from the ERP. Pricing, discounts, and customer-specific conditions from Business Central are applied in the store. B2B customers see their individual prices, volume discounts are calculated automatically. Consistent pricing logic across all channels, no discrepancies between online and offline.

Track invoice and payment status. Invoices and payments from Business Central can be displayed in the Magento customer account. Your customers see outstanding items and payment receipts, customer service has all information at a glance. Fewer inquiries, better transparency, higher customer satisfaction.

What the integration means for your management

For: C-Level, Management, Business Development

Scalability without system breaks. As your e-commerce grows, complexity increases. The Magento Business Central integration ensures that store and ERP work seamlessly together even with rising order volumes. You can enter new markets, set up additional stores, or expand the product portfolio without your processes collapsing. The investment in continuous data flows pays off.

Faster cashflow cycles. Orders are processed immediately in the ERP, invoices are created automatically, payment receipts are tracked. The time between order and cash is significantly reduced. You reduce working capital, improve liquidity, and can reinvest earlier. Finance and e-commerce work hand in hand.

Make data-driven decisions. When store and ERP data are synchronized, you have a reliable basis for forecasts, capacity planning, and assortment decisions. You see in real time which products are performing, where bottlenecks are looming, and where potential lies. Better data leads to better decisions and fewer surprises at month-end.

What the connection brings to marketing, sales, and operations

For: Marketing, Sales, Customer Success, Operations

No more manual order transfers. Previously, you had to manually transfer orders from Magento to the ERP or juggle CSV exports. That costs time, produces errors, and delays order processing. With the integration, orders flow automatically, you can focus on customer service and process optimization instead of copy-paste.

Customers always see current inventory levels. Nothing is more frustrating than placing an order only to learn that the item is not available. Real-time synchronization shows only deliverable items in the store, including realistic delivery times. Your conversion increases, returns decrease, customer experience improves noticeably.

Central product maintenance saves time. You maintain items, prices, and descriptions once in the ERP, data flows automatically to all Magento stores. No duplicate effort, no inconsistencies between channels. New products are online faster, price adjustments take effect immediately.

Customer service with complete visibility. Your service team sees order history, open items, delivery status, and complaints from both systems. Inquiries can be processed faster, proactive communication becomes possible. Satisfied customers buy again and recommend.

What the connector solution means for IT and development

For: IT, Development, System Architects, Admins

Magento 1 and Magento 2 are supported. Many integrations only work with Magento 2, yet numerous stores still run on version 1. MARINI fully supports both versions. You can implement the integration for legacy systems and continue working seamlessly during a later migration to Magento 2.

All endpoints and custom attributes available. Magento offers extensive REST, SOAP, and GraphQL APIs. MARINI uses all available endpoints, including custom attributes that you’ve added through extensions or your own developments. No limitations, no workarounds, full flexibility for your individual requirements.

Business Central Cloud and On-Prem connectable. Whether you operate Business Central Online or On-Premises: MARINI can connect both variants via OData v4 REST APIs. Hybrid scenarios (Magento Cloud, BC On-Prem, or vice versa) are also no problem. You’re not tied to specific deployment models.

No installation required in the systems. MARINI works as a cloud-based integration platform. You don’t need to install plugins or deploy code in either Magento or Business Central. The coupling occurs exclusively via APIs, your systems remain clean, and upgrades are not blocked. Fewer dependencies, less maintenance effort.

Maximum Security and Stability

Business-critical data deserves maximum reliability. At MARINI, security isn’t an add-on—it’s our lived standard. Our security architecture at a glance:

  • GDPR-compliant and legally secured (including Swiss revDPA)
  • ISO 27001-certified data centers
  • Multiple daily backups across multiple locations
  • Incident response and recovery plans
  • Continuous monitoring and personal tech support

This keeps your central data infrastructure stable, protected, and scalable at all times. Together, we’ll find the right integration and tailor it precisely to your requirements.
