Global Counter Manager

This step-by-step guide will show you how to configure Global Counters in the DataEngine. Global Counters are primarily used in Workflow Action Calculated Fields to, for example, continuously count all records within a module. This allows you to generate custom customer numbers, contract numbers, or offer numbers.

Step 1: Access the Admin Area

  • Log in to the DataEngine with your admin user account.
  • Navigate to “Admin” using the top navigation bar.

Step 2: Open the Global Counter Manager

  • Go to “Developer Tools”.
  • Select “Global Counter Manager”.

Step 3: Configure the Counter

  • Assign a suitable name to the counter. You will need to refer to this name when using Workflow Action Calculated Fields.
  • Set the starting point of the counter, for example, at 100000.
  • Choose from one of the various counter types:
    • Global Counter: Counts across all modules.
    • Global Counter per User: Counts all records assigned to a user.
    • Global Counter per Module: Counts all records within a module.
    • Global Counter per User and per Module: Counts all records within a module assigned to a user.
    • Daily Counter: Counts all records of a day across all modules.
    • Daily Counter per User: Counts all records of a day assigned to a user.
    • Daily Counter per Module: Counts all records of a day within a module.
    • Daily Counter per User and per Module: Counts all records of a day within a module assigned to a user.

Step 4: Select Module and User

  • Choose the module on which the counter should run if you opt for a module-level counter.
  • The user selection is only necessary for rights management and describes the assigned to user.

Step 5: Save

  • Confirm your settings by clicking “Save”.

Note: If you use a counter formula within a workflow, this counter will automatically be created at the appropriate location. You can then configure the count. However, you do not need to create a counter in advance before you want to use it in workflows.
