Security Group Management

This guide explains step by step how you can manage permission groups in DataEngine. Permission groups facilitate the organization and management of user and role rights by grouping them into meaningful categories.

What Are Permission Groups?

With permission groups, you can group users and roles into meaningful categories. This can be done, for example, by departments within a company or different sales territories. By grouping, you can manage rights more efficiently and clearly.

Step 1: Open Permission Groups Management

  1. Open your DataEngine and go to the top menu bar.
  2. Click on the Admin menu item.
  3. Then select Permission Groups Management.

Step 2: Create a New Permission Group

  1. Click on Create Permission Group.
  2. Give the new group a unique Name.
  3. Add a Description that explains the purpose and scope of the group.
  4. Inheritance: Decide whether the permission group should be inherited to other records. This is relevant if certain records should only be visible within this group.
  5. Click on Save.

Step 3: Add Users and Roles to the Permission Group

  1. Open the created permission group.
  2. Within the group, define which Users should belong and which Roles form the basis for this group.
  3. In the respective subpanel, click on Select.
  4. A pop-up window will open. Select the corresponding users or roles there.

How Permission Groups Work

  • A group defines the stored rights for all users within it. That is, all members of a group receive the same permissions as defined by the assigned roles.
  • This simplifies management and ensures that all members of a group have consistent rights.

Rights Inheritance and Behavior

Through the permission group settings, you can additionally specify how rights are inherited and behave in detail. You can find more information in the corresponding article on Rights Inheritance and Behavior Definition.

Summary

By managing permission groups in DataEngine, you can efficiently organize and manage user and role rights. Follow the steps above to create and configure permission groups. If you have any questions or problems, our support team is always available to assist you.

This structure helps you to keep track of rights assignment and to improve security and efficiency within your organization.
